Build systems that have to work.
The Cognitive Compute organization supports DANTE-class quantum cores and the cryogenic infrastructure around them. This role focuses on shield systems, super-cooled gas handling, thermal transients, emergency recovery and maintainability inside highly restricted lab environments.
What you’ll do
- Own cryogenic subsystem requirements, thermal budgets and failure-response models.
- Develop shield retraction, exposure-window and emergency re-shield procedures.
- Design instrumentation for coolant flow, vibration, thermal excursion and core-support structures.
- Support cold-room commissioning and anomaly investigations.
- Coordinate with facilities, power and quantum-hardware teams on integrated test events.
Minimum qualifications
- B.S. or higher in mechanical engineering, cryogenic engineering, aerospace engineering or related discipline.
- 7+ years in cryogenic, vacuum, superconductor, semiconductor or high-energy laboratory systems.
- Experience with hazard analysis and high-consequence thermal systems.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience below -100°C, cryogenic gas systems or superconducting hardware.
- Experience with human-rated cold-environment PPE and emergency procedures.
- Background in large research facilities, fusion, accelerator or quantum-compute infrastructure.
Mission environment
Work includes controlled access to sub-zero laboratories. Specialized padded cold suits and strict exposure procedures are required during shield-open maintenance windows.
